Olivas Adobe Historical Park is the perfect place to take a step back and learn about California’s history. This park is home to the last adobe home built in the state and is a beautiful example of early California architecture. Information can be found here.
The Olivas Adobe is a two-story home with a central courtyard. The family lived in the home until 1855, when they sold it to Captain William Henry Taylor. In 1966, the City of Ventura purchased the adobe and the surrounding land to create Olivas Adobe Historical Park. The adobe is open for tours Tuesday through Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm. The tour starts in the Visitor Center, where you can watch a short film about the history of adobe. You will then be taken on a guided tour of adobe. You will learn about the daily life of the early Californians.
In addition to the adobe, Olivas Adobe Historical Park has a blacksmith shop, carriage house, and barn. The blacksmith shop was built in 1854 and is the only original blacksmith shop left in Ventura County. The carriage house was built in 1859 and was used to store the family’s carriages and horses. The barn was built in 1837 and was originally used to house livestock.
